Dez Bryant wants the Cowboys to sign popular free agent
Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wasn't shy as a player on the field and he let defenders know all about his prowess all game long.

That trait hasn't left him as he still loves to voice his opinions on the latest happenings for the Cowboys. Earlier this year, he banged the table for Dallas to trade for Atlanta Falcons TE Kyle Pitts and was vocal about letting CeeDee Lamb touch the football more often.

Now, he's calling for the Cowboys to sign the NFL veteran his former team is about to work out: Wide receiver Martavis Bryant.

Martavis, a 31-year-old free agent, last played in the league in 2018, the same year when Dez tore his Achilles with the New Orleans Saints.  Martavis Bryant was recently reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Despite the news coming out of nowhere, the Cowboys might face some competition if they want to add the veteran as he seems to be a popular target around the league. Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, he is already "drawing interest from teams."

Dez took to Twitter to support the potential addition:

Martavis' career in the NFL has been rocky. His latest suspension wasn't a first. As a matter of fact, he was put back on the list after a previous reinstatement.

Back in 2018, the NFL announced Bryant had "been returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his April 2017 conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse."

Since then, Bryant has been working on getting back to the NFL. In 2023, he played in the XFL's Vegas Vipers. He caught 14 passes for 154 yards in eight games.

It's hard to envision Bryant making a big-time impact on the Cowboys' season this year or in the future if he is signed. However, with one practice squad slot open, he might be the best candidate for it due to his upside. After all, he was an NFL starter at some point in his career.

Bryant's best season came in 2015 when he caught 50 passes for 765 yards and six touchdowns with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Dez Bryant is co-signing the requests to make the low-risk, high-reward bet on Martavis. We will see if the Cowboys like what they see in the veteran when he is worked out.
