LeBron James Trolls Colin Cowherd After He Says JJ Redick Wearing His Hat Backwards Is Unprofessional For A Head Coaching Candidate

Top sports analyst Colin Cowherd went viral this week after challenging JJ Redick for wearing a backward hat while recording his podcast. After the clip caught massive attention online, LeBron responded in a post and came to the defense of his teammate.

"He really doesn’t like your [hat] JJ!! I wonder if these two are ok," wrote James. "They have damn good jobs I believe!"

Wearing a backward cap has always been a popular look and it's not exclusive to guys who "move furniture" in someone's house. Countless NBA personnel have sported the look over the years, including coaches, executives, and many players.

While JJ Redick is being considered for several head coaching jobs, he doesn't have any official or formal role in the NBA anymore. All of his podcast work is being done in his free time, independently of the NBA network. So when JJ heard Cowherd getting on him for a simple fashion choice, he couldn't help but laugh.

After getting cooked by both LeBron and Redick, Cowherd did eventually respond with a post of his own, perhaps indicating a hint of regret over his words.

In 2024, where players have the ultimate freedom to express themselves, it's just not popular to judge someone based on their choice of headwear and the fans are making it known just how unpopular that behavior really is.

Only time will tell if Colin will ever reverse course on this take but it's just another one to add to his long list of controversial opinions.  As for James, he typically doesn't stand for someone coming at his friend like that and he felt the need to speak out in this case just to prove Cowherd wrong.

Will JJ Redick Be The Lakers' Next Head Coach?

After dismissing Darvin Ham this summer, the Lakers are expected to undergo a strict and rigorous hiring process to select their next locker room leader. With an aging roster and a desire to win now, the Lakers will begin their search with coaches who bring experience, pedigree, and an advanced understanding of the game.

So far, names like Phil Handy, Mike Budenholzer, and Tyronn Lue have all emerged as top candidates for the job and it makes sense given what they each bring to the table. Despite his inexperience as a coach, JJ Redick is also under heavy consideration for the position.

As a former NBA professional, Redick already has a unique perspective on the game and he's sure to earn the player's trust as someone who used to be in their shoes. Thanks to his role as a voice on ESPN and as a podcast host with LeBron James, the full extent of his basketball knowledge has been revealed to the world and the Lakers believe it can be used to help elevate their ceiling in the future.

Regardless of where he ends up, JJ Redick is unphased by Colin's critique and he's not about to change his routine now over the outdated opinion of someone in the media. When deciding their next head coach, the Lakers will surely not be focused on such matters as they instead look to prioritize other attributes that might actually make an impact on the floor.
